Rocks and Minerals
15 students from both elementary schools took a field trip to the University College of the North's Mining Academy, where they explored three fields: Environmental Studies, Geology, and Mining.
The students in the Environmental studies room looked at different fish species from our local lakes, talked about pollution and its effects, and then studied some water samples with living species in it.
The students learned about rocks and minerals, looked at different samples, and learned how to use a microscope.
The highlight of the morning was when students got to try the simulators to drive a rock truck "underground" to see what the environment is like, some of the safety rules, and what kind of jobs there are.
